The different parts of portal can be developed and updated independently of others. New features can be implemented at later stages, meaning that all investments don’t need to be made at one time. Also updates to Portal constantly add new features. Portal can be further expanded with third party and open source components. Customer specific code can also be created in cooperation with a third party.
Development through small steps is recommended even for big projects. With short iterations it is possible to develop cost effective improvements that realize their benefits in a timely manner.
The past and the future of the product
Navigo Portal has been developed by leveraging the experience in projects and applications that Ch5 Finland has accrued over the years. First portal project was launched in the beginning of 2008. After this, many significant web services have been developed and many more are under development. The life span of the Navigo Portal has been designed to be at least 7-10 years.
In the future, the emphasis of development is on communal features, usability and providing a wider range of readymade applications.
The product is at a productive phase of its life cycle, where experience, innovation and development work are in balance.
